happy Rochdale Customer
I just wanted to say thanks to the man in the Rochdale Shop who helped me choose my accordion. I got the Excelsior and at the time I was just starting lessons, not knowing if I would take to it or not. Well, I am delighted to say that I have taken to it and my lessons are going well. I am very pleased with my accordion and I might at some point into the future buy a Roland! Thanks again for your patience and help while I was choosing my accordion.

Denise Leigh & Stefan Andrusyschyn
Bath Abbey Concert Series are thrilled to be hosting An Evening with Denise Leigh & Stefan Andrusyschyn on Thursday 14 July at 7.30pm.
Soprano Denise will be singing a lovely mixed programme of songs from Bach to Bernstein and Rossini to Rogers & Hart. She will be accompanied by her husband and renowned accordion player Stefan Andrusyschyn, playing both piano and accordion, including some new arrangements for voice & accordion, plus a Piazzola tango or two!
Denise has been blind since she was a young child, but that hasn’t stopped her following her dream of being an opera singer. Her breakthrough came when she was joint winner of Channel 4’s programme Operatunity in 2001, and she hasn’t looked back since, singing with English National Opera, at the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace (for members of the Royal family, including the Queen) and with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, The BBC Concert Orchestra, the London Handel Players, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also taken part in the BBC’s Proms In The Park, Songs of Praise and Friday Night Is Music Night.
Denise has a close association with the RNIB, and there will be a retiring collection for this charity at the end of the concert.

News from Romanno
Just a note to let you know about the Classical Accordion Concert at Our Lady & St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 22, Roxborough Park, HA1 3BE. Following last year's success the Classical Accordion Department of the Royal Academy of Music will be playing a selection of transcriptions and original works for Classical Accordion this coming saturday at 7.30pm. The instruments sound wonderful in the church's natural acoustic and the playing is of the highest calibre as these players have already won many major national and international competitions (one of them even won Lithuania's Got Talent!). We know we have stiff comptition this year with the Champions League Final on the TV but I hope that some of you will come and support the event. There is food served too in the interval (in the church gardens weather permitting) included in the price of the ticket. Tickets are £10 and are available from the Parish office 0208 422 2513.

Update from Romano
Dear Friends,
Firstly, let me thank you for all those who came to see The Accordionist in Poole, Exeter and at the New End Theatre in London. It's so important to support accordion events as it creates a demand and inevitably leads to new people hearing and appreciating our instrument. We got some great reviews and are contemplating taking the show northwards this time on a tour. Will let you know when.
On Saturday 28th May, the accordion students of the Royal Academy of Music will be playing at 7.30pm at Our Lady and St Thomas of Canterbury Church, 22 Roxborough Park, Harrow on the Hill, Middx, HA1 3BE (Tel. 020 8422 2513). For some students, like Ksenija Sidorova, graduation looms and we find that suddently they are already in their final year at the RAM. The concert will feature some beautiful music brought to life in the wonderful acoustic of a church whose size is perfect for an accordion recital. I believe there will be food involved too as last year (Bangers and Mash). Not all details have been confirmed but I will send a reminder regarding ticket prices nearer the date.
Then there are another two events the week before, sadly on the same day! Sunday 22nd May. However since one is in Canterbury and the other in London both events will probably not affect eachother. Please see the relevant fliers attached.
Note that the Owen Murray Accordion Day event in Canterbury also includes a composers workshop in the morning at 10.00 am and at 3.30 pm a workshop for teachers and students. Students may bring their accordions and play in this afternoon workshop.

RIPLEY, SURREY, GU23 6AF
FRIDAY 15TH APRIL…. 21ST ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
PEARL FAWCETT ADRIANO….
THE FIRST LADY OF THE ACCORDION
Pearl was born in South Yorkshire and started playing the accordion at the age of eight. She had many successes in her early life winning both the Junior and Senior World Championships.
After graduating, with Honours, from the Royal Manchester College of Music, for the study of Piano, Cello, Singing and all branches of Music, she became a Professor at the same college. Later, deciding to concentrate on performing, she turned professional. Pearl has given concerts all over the world. She was the first female accordionist to undertake a solo concert tour of the former USSR. On the classical side she has performed concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall and Leningrad’s Philharmonic Hall. She also had appearances with such orchestras as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and BBC Northern Symphony. On the lighter side there have been many appearances of TV and BBC Radio.
Pearl’s vast repertoire ranges from the classics to light music, French Musette and continental, and no matter what kind of music she plays, her marvellous technique and control of the instrument ensures that the music is interpreted to the full, which has greatly impressed many people around the world.

News from Romano Viazzani
Just to let you know about my next project which will be touring over the next few months. We open at The Lighthouse in Poole, Dorset next month, then The Bike Shed, Exeter the following month ending in a three week run at the New End Theatre Hampstead, London in April. I will remind you about this last venue again nearer the time as it's a still way off. Filling a theatre in London for 3 weeks will be no mean task so I hope you will try to come and see it. The story is about Jacqueline (Bethany Jameson)- an Edith Piaf tribute singer who escapes her unhappy marriage and musical partnership with her forceful accordionist husband (played by me!) who has forced her to sing only Piaf songs. After years of absence on the stage and battling with achoholism she is reunited with a new younger accordionist (played by me also!) who has held a torch for her for many years.
I have written the incidental music and most of the songs, but there are some Piaf songs too as well as a gem by accordionist Karen Street.
See the attached flyer for details. Hope you can come. Don't tell me which night you are coming as it just makes me nervous! Surprise me after the show.
Don't forget to cheer wildly at each song even if you hate them, hate the show and never want to see me again!
All the best

Take it Away scheme rules are changing!
News from the Arts’ Council has given warning of changes in the terms and conditions to the fantastic interest free loan. These changes are considerable and come into force April next year. This is of great concern with regards to the eligibility criteria which in greatly diminishing. As of April next year (2011) the interest free loan will be available only to those aged between 18-25. It is to influence more students or those in full time education. It is also not viable for an elder to purchase on behalf of somebody, even if that ‘somebody’ falls into the correct age gap (so, the parent cannot use this scheme to buy for his/her children). The cheme will still be available for application for the foreseeable future, but with the criteria noticeably narrowed. This does, however, allow for a greater degree of help for those continuing their studies after school and into further education.
These changes are as of a direct consequence of the recent Budget cuts announced. It has been necessary for the Arts’ council to make headway for great savings in the coming years of trade. They are, in their words, ‘targeting more priorities lending wise’.
In short – be fast and beat the hike in VAT and these changes! The 0% loan is still here until April 2011 so don’t delay!

Sorry I didn't see all of you but it was lovely to see those I did see. I hope you enjoyed Kurt Weill's lovely music. Firstly, after a 3-year break I will be playing with Gilad Atzmon again for a Orient House Ensemble 10th Anniversary re-union concert on November 18th 2010 which will be great to be playing with many of the past members of the ensemble. Hope some of you can make it. See below for details.
Secondly, on the 22nd November I will be doing a solo concert at Black Country Accordion Club (Rowley Regis Disability Club, Rowley Regis, Birmingham (Info: 01215594620-Barry) for those in the West Midlands area.
Finally, please see the events at the Royal Academy of Music below. Of particular interest to my students and anyone else's accordion student especially those intending to go on to further education, is the Accordion Department Open Day which has been organised on a sunday (14th Nov) especially so that young students who can't always make the events at the RAM due to being at school/college can attend. So young players don't miss it, this event is there for you.
I will email soon about my next show The Accordionist very soon.

Satisfied Customer
A customer wrote a letter of thanks :
'Dear Mr Accordion man and Jeremy, i must write to thank you for your infinite patience to me in choosing an instrument! I know it's much like a learner driver buying a rolls royce (to me!) but I'm absolutely reveling in it's lovely tone - my playing is improving quicker as I can't put it down! Best wishes to Jeremy in his forthcoming marriage, thank you again, regards (name removed).'
We are delighted that we made such a good impression - the customer must be totally satisfied with their purchase. A musical instrument is a personal item, none more so than the accordion. In this respect, the customer's were certainly no burden, we are happy to have them make the right choice, in their own time.

Call to action
Dear Accordion Friends,
Many accordionists in the UK have over the years selflessly sought to get the accordion recognised and put on equal footing with other musical instruments. This is probably the one thing that unites all accordionists - recognition and respect for the instrumnent.
In 2005 Trinity/Guildhall took the brave step of introducing a Standard Bass and Free Bass Syllabus for the accordion. Most of my students have taken these exams and some have passed and one or two have failed but I am confident that they are being judged on the same criteria as other instrumentalists which makes victory sweeter when they get a good pass mark.
Though there has been a take up it has not been sufficient to keep the syllabus going and they have decided to drop it for something watered down and frankly pointless. We need equal status with other instruments.
Please, please, please do something for your instrument and write a short message to this email address info@trinitycollege.co.uk to save our accordion syllabus.
The BCA and NAO will not do it for you for their own reasons, you'll have to do it yourself and remember that Trinity/Guildhall like the Associated Board is not only a government accredited syllabus but is recognised internationally holding exams all over the world.
Maybe if we all pull together FOR ONCE instead of being divided we may do something worthwhile for our young accordionists and people who are new to the instrument.
PLEASE!!!!! If we bombard them with enough messages they might see the potential in the instrument to keep the syllabus going. It's a slim chance but it's worth a try. WE can do it.
Many thanks

Also does the FR1 the smaller accordion have the saome bass functions as possibly one of them even new could act as a spare. Many thanks!

Satisfied customer from abroad!?
We have recently spread our wings to the far reaches of sunny Cyprus! An accordion teacher over there saw an accordion (a Hohner to be precise) on our website and phoned us up.
'very pleased with the accordion - excellent service', was her response.
If you are from abroad, don't let that stop you from ordering - we can, and indeed have, shipped overseas. If you see an accordion you'd like to buy, just phone us - it's a simple as that.

Roland FR7-X
The long wait is finally over! Watch this space closely for the release of the highly anticipated Roland FR-7 X model.
This model boasts new innovations - the main one being the bellows pressure control. This makes this virtual accordion even more realistic compared with acoustic counterparts by modulating bellows pressure whilst playing. This is a fantastic new advancement for digital accordions and we are excited about their release.
Come down to our showroom to try out these fantastic new accordions as soon as they're in!!

The Woking Pianothon took place at The Wolsey centre on Saturday 15th March 2008.
Organised by Sue Hamilton (local teacher). It was quite simply a wonderful day with over 80 pianists performing. Students as young as 5 years old playing their first pieces to accomplished concerts pianists and duos.
Handel pianos and Electronic Accordions Ltd provided 2 pianos for the event and also a stand with information on pianos and accordions.
The Mayor of Woking and his wife were in attendance as were the local press. Sue Hamilton should be congratulated for organising such a great event and here's hoping for a similar event in 2009.
